What's on the ballot and key dates

On the ballot: U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and proposed constitutional amendments, plus local races in some areas.

  • Early voting and absentee ballot requests are now closed.
  • Mailed absentee ballots must reach your parish registrar of voters by Monday, November 2 at 4:30 p.m. A postmark does not count, so mail it early.
  • On election day, polls are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you are in line when polls close, you can still vote.

What the ballot said

Shall the Calcasieu Parish Law Enforcement District, ("The District"), be authorized to continue to levy, collect and adopt an ordinance providing for such levy and collection of a tax of one-half (1/2%) percent ("the tax") upon the sale at retail, the use, the lease or rental, the consumption and the storage for use or consumption of tangible personal property and on sales of services, all as defined in L.R.S. 47:301 through L.R.S. 47:317, inclusive, for a period of ten (10) years from the date of the first levy of the tax renewal, with proceeds of the tax, after paying reasonable and necessary costs and expenses for collecting and administering the tax, to be dedicated and used for: the maintenance of the salary schedule for deputies; providing for future cost of living salary adjustments; continued funding of the Patrol and Corrections Divisions and related law enforcement functions; maintenance of Emergency Fund Balance or Reserve to be utilized in the event of an emergency and provide continuity in operations; and if approved, the renewal of this tax to commence on October 1, 2016, and expire on September 30, 2026, with estimated annual proceeds of $23,843,000.00?
