On the ballot: U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and proposed constitutional amendments, plus local races in some areas.

  • Early voting and absentee ballot requests are now closed.
  • Mailed absentee ballots must reach your parish registrar of voters by Monday, November 2 at 4:30 p.m. A postmark does not count, so mail it early.
  • On election day, polls are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you are in line when polls close, you can still vote.

PARISHWIDE PROPOSITION (MILLAGE REDEDICATION AND CONTINUATION) SUMMARY: AUTHORITY TO REDEDICATE (I) THE PROCEEDS OF A TAX AUTHORIZED TO BE LEVIED IN THE YEARS 2003 THROUGH 2007, INCLUSIVE, PURSUANT TO AN ELECTION HELD IN THE PARISH OF EAST CARROLL ON OCTOBER 5, 2002, FOR OPERATIONS, MAINTENANCE AND ADMINISTERING OF THE EAST CARROLL PARISH HEALTH UNIT AND (II) THE UNEXPENDED PROCEEDS OF AD VALOREM TAXES LEVIED PRIOR TO THE YEAR 2003 FOR SAID PURPOSES, SO THAT SAID PROCEEDS MAY BE USED EXCLUSIVELY FOR ACQUIRING, ADMINISTERING, CONSTRUCTING, IMPROVING, MAINTAINING, OPERATING AND/OR SUPPORTING THE EAST CARROLL PARISH HEALTH UNIT, INCLUDING ITS FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS, AND FOR FURTHER AUTHORITY TO CONTINUE TO LEVY THE TAX AT A RATE OF 4.13 MILLS FOR AN ADDITIONAL 10 YEARS, WITH THE PROCEEDS THEREOF TO BE USED EXCLUSIVELY FOR ACQUIRING, ADMINISTERING, CONSTRUCTING, IMPROVING, MAINTAINING, OPERATING AND/OR SUPPORTING THE EAST CARROLL PARISH HEALTH UNIT, INCLUDING ITS FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS.

What the ballot said

Shall the Parish of East Carroll, State of Louisiana (the "Parish"), be authorized to rededicate (i) the proceeds heretofore or hereafter received by the Parish from the levy and collection of the tax (the "Tax"), authorized to be levied in the years 2003 through 2007, inclusive, pursuant to an election held in the Parish on October 5, 2002, for operations, maintenance and administering of the East Carroll Parish Health Unit and (ii) the unexpended proceeds of ad valorem taxes levied prior to the year 2003 for said purposes, so that said proceeds may be used exclusively for acquiring, administering, constructing, improving, maintaining, operating and/or supporting the East Carroll Parish Health Unit, including its facilities, equipment and furnishings, and for further authority to continue to levy the Tax at a rate of four and thirteen hundredths (4.13) mills on all property subject to taxation within the Parish (an estimated $119,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year) for an additional ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2008 and ending with the year 2017, with the proceeds thereof to be used exclusively for acquiring, administering, constructing, improving, maintaining, operating and/or supporting the East Carroll Parish Health Unit, including its facilities, equipment and furnishings?
